On-the-Job Training (OJT) - On-the-job Training Program (OJT) is a federally funded program that helps employers hire and train workers with the goal of long-term employment. Through this program, employers may be reimbursed up to 50 percent of new hire’s wages. OJT screening for eligibility must be completed prior to hiring the new employee.
Incumbent Worker Training - Incumbent Worker Training in Shelby County is designed to enhance the skills and productivity of current employees through targeted, job-specific training programs. This initiative helps local businesses improve their workforce capabilities, adapt to changing industry demands, and foster career growth among existing staff.
Work Experience Program (14-24) - The Work Experience Program offers participants the opportunity to gain practical job skills while earning a wage, bridging the gap between training and full-time employment. The OhioMeansJobs Center of Shelby County has training funds available to provide services to youth, ages 14 - 24, who face barriers to employment.
Individual Opportunity Plans, developed by the youth services provider and the youth, prepare youth for employment and/or post-secondary education through strong linkages between academic and occupational learning.
Some of the elements available include: tutoring, study skills & dropout prevention, alternative secondary school services or dropout recovery services, paid and unpaid work experiences, occupational skills training, leadership development opportunities, mentoring, guidance and counseling, financial literacy education, and entrepreneurial skills training!
